Calories and Drugs

It’s really funny to me that in a society that for the most part says they hate math, love to count calories.

Think about it, did healthy people count calories thousands of years ago. This is  a new idea: calorie counting. We make sure we deprive ourselves of food (especially fat being that it’s 9 cal per gram), and then spend hours on a treadmill to “burn” off more calories.

Now don’t get me wrong, yes to lose fat for the most part, you must be in a caloric deficit, but that’s by far the number one issue to losing fat.

I used to be the same way. I looked up how to lose fat, (when I was fat myself) and saw I needed to eat less and more more. It was the law of thermodynamics. Energy cannot be created or destroyed, just transferred. So if I ate less, and moved more, the laws of physics would apply.

One BIG problem.

This says nothing about biology. Yes if we eat 10 lbs of cake, it has to go somewhere right. But it’s not about just a measure of energy. It’s about the message the food tells your body.
Food is the strongest drug on the planet. Think about that. Although most drugs don’t have much or any calories, they have a strong impact on our bodies.

Take for example a person using cocaine. although they eat the same amount of calories (energy), they may experience significant weight loss. Some may say “Well Baris, if they are using cocaine, their heart will beat faster and burn more calories.” Okay, he is another example..

Food has a chemical effect on your body

A  lot of women experience weight gain on a contraceptive. This is due to the fact the drug releases a hormone to manipulate the body being pregnant. You can’t get pregnant while your already pregnant. Naturally, the woman will start to gain weight to make a better environment to have a baby. This has nothing to do with what she ate.

Food does the same thing. If you eat something you’re allergic to like broccoli, it doesn’t matter how many calories are in it, it will negatively affect your hormones. Same goes for sugar. I don’t care if your cookies are only 100 calories, the sugar and corn syrup in these cookies tells your body to pack on fat!Don’t worry about quantity, it’s all about quality. Eat real food, watch the fat melt off your body.

Remember that Action is the foundation to success. So it’s great that you read, but it’s what you do with it that counts!

you will burn.*Note: It does have different lelves that you will be doing the exercise (vigorous effort, light effort, etc). Then, do the exercise for as long and with as much effort as you entered in the tracker and see how the number you get compares. Also, you could reverse this order and do your exercise first if you don’t know ahead of time what you might do.(P.S. I saw on another question you wrote in Diet & Fitness that you are 20 years old I am too! You should really consider joining buddyslim.com! It’s so great It’s like Myspace for people on diets. They have all sorts of trackers (calories eaten, calories burned, weight) and you can even set minigoals, which make you feel a lot better about losing weight! Check it out!)

Great, though I wouldn’t entertain counting calories. Like i said, Food is a drug, and it’s about the chemical effect it has on your body.
